Only dry red wine with a protected designation of origin can be marketed under the brand name Egri Bikavér. Bikavér is the world famous red wine of the region, a blend of at least 4 different red base wines, while Kékfrankos has to be between 30-65%. The base wines have to be aged separately in barrels for at least six months, then further aged in bottles. By law, there are three different quality levels of Egri Bikavér: Classic, Superior and Grand Superior.
